ABOUT COOLEY ::
Tim Cooley is an unsaved, secular, misinformed, unlearned and uneducated person. God’s Word is truth. Man either believes or he doesn’t believe. It is called faith and faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. Some men have ears but they cannot hear. They have eyes but they cannot see and none are so blind as those who refuse to see.
- a Christian on Tim Cooley
Hi. My name is Tim. I am 15 18 years old. I like grapes. This is how my atheism came about:
One particular Sunday morning, at Sunday School, when I was around 12-13, my pastor said to me,
Timmy, just look at how perfect the world is! There are exactly 365 days in a year, 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour and 60 seconds in a minute. God is Great!
Right that moment, I knew that faith was blind.

Your whole understanding of everything is based on what you have no doubt read about either in books or on the internet, you have not done tests yourself and drawn conclusions from them but instead have relied on other people’s information. You are merely a 15 year old child, who thinks he knows everything there is to know, who is on a mission to try and rid the Earth of Creationist views and, i’m afraid, you will fail. You are to young and inexperienced to possibly have any type of firm belief (and yes, atheism is a belief) at all. I suggest that you take a break and open your mind to things other than evolution and atheism.
I find that you’re only 15 to be a great surprise. I understood you were young, but I actually thought you had either already graduated school or were about to. Good for you.
To anon, Whatever it is, i think the LAST place to get info about the earth and science is the bible.
“I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn’t, rather than to live my life as if there isn’t and die to find out there is.”

Sorry to inform you. You are in great danger of other thousands of hells. Why? You blaspheme against thousands of other gods by saying all other gods are fake.
Your chances are slim.
http://www.abarnett.demon.co.uk/atheism/wager.html
which is a cowardly hedging of bets if ever i saw one!
Tim,
I enjoyed looking at your website. It’s wonderful to see someone so young able to think for himself rather than just believing what everyone else says to believe. You’ve achieved a very impressive understanding of science, and evolution in paritcular, and you demonstrate more ability to see through the propoganda of creationists and eloquently explain their flaws than even many scientists do. Keep your mind open, keep thinking carefully and critically about everything you see, and don’t be afraid to come to your own conclusions, and you will go far in life.
anon -
You’re RIDICULOUS. This young man investigates science for himself, comes to his own conclusions, and makes a website where he presents scientific information and discusses and defends his view (way more than you are apparently willing to do), and all you can do is ridicule him because he has “not done tests for himself and drawn conclusions from them but instead relied on other people’s information”? Then you try to put him down and intimidate him into following your beliefs??? You should be ashamed. And yet, this “mere child” shows at an age of 15 more of an understanding of how science works than not only every creationist I’ve ever talked to, but most adults in general.
EVEN SCIENTISTS have to rely on other people’s information!!! No one can possibly do all the tests for themselves…. scientists publish their findings, and other scientists read about them and write articles about how they would interpret the evidence all the time. There’s nothing wrong with it at all… in fact, that’s the way many scientific discoveries have been made. Tim is already more of a scientist than most people, and WAY more of a scientist than those who try to push their religious views on people and label it as “science”. I think you are the one who has some growing up to do.
Oit, Anon, Shut up.
Just because you are blind to the principles of science, doesn’t mean you should spout your ignorance to people who understand science.
I don’t understand your website. Just because your pastor is an idiot and the creationists are wrong we should throw every religion in the fire and deny all possible chance that there is a God or atleast some sort of supernatural realm or paranormal beyond what we know as ours? As an agnostic I have worked with many religious people and I am quit offended by your generalizations, many of them are very bright minds in science and in no way do they deny it. Whoever said creationism was a a rule? Are aware that the majority of liberals are Christian, or that most beleive in evolution? Also why is America always the standard? If you apply the religious demographic here with Europe for example you’ll see that countries are quite religious while also having a high number of evolution believers, support in secularism, and by some studies higher average IQ rates than the US. Quite honestly I am sick of all the generalizations, constantly passing the evil, dumb, blinded to knowledge, ignorance, and philanthropic labels around, get real none of those apply. People are much more than their religious beleifs, and yes, even when it comes to understanding science. Also while, many of the eligious people I have met are involved in the life sciences, I would like to speculate my situation which involves theoretical physics, quantum chemistry, and the studies of semiconductors. In no way have I found conflicts in any of these fields with religion, which leads me to another point- as someone who respects science, please stop making it a slave to the religious argument, it is much more than that, and will always continue to expand in the so many ways that it does.
Before you reply to this, I need your opinion, do you know Richard Dawkins? Do you know his forum? Become a member there and join my debates, you’ll find me under SirGeorge8600.
I have responded to you in this article: http://timcooley.wordpress.com/2009/12/08/religion-is-not-compatible-with-science/
Jesus dies on two separate days in the Gospels of Mark and John Respectively. Literally. Go read your Bible. Write down everything that happens in each chapter. Compare all the notes on Mark and John side from side. It takes hours. If you remember the Jewish day begins at sun down you will see that I am correct.
Read more, shut your mouth it make you a fool.
The “kid” is wiser than you could know and you most likely won’t take the time to even read Mark and John. I suppose you wil just disregard it..
If your faith is truly unshakeable, I think you have little to fear besides 4 hours of hard reading and thinking.
The “kid” is wiser than you will ever be able to know.
You are wise beyond your years.
You have an interesting site.
I was also a little surprised to see your age, you do come across as a little older than you are a lot more rational than most.
Excellent site, keep up the good work!
Tim..superb blog ..and nice to see reason being fostered in today’s youth instead of the usual blind faith that comes from indoctrination of the religious tripe..sorry type
I saw you’d posted on Cafe Witteveen and have added your blog to my blog roll !
Nice site Tim!
Approve!
very nice!
keep up the good word/work Tim.
So, I pretty much love you…
Hey! I love you too!
I think it’s insane that you’re only fifteen; you’ve got the intellect of a forty year old and many of your views match my own, even if I have trouble following some of them : ]
You’re inspiring (in your own funky way) and your blog’s been the source of many laughs, and headaches, for me over the last few weeks.

Haha, that’s good to hear! The usual impression that spreads around here is that I am a naive and childish, god-denying and rude little heathen, trying to blaspheme against an imaginary figure I cannot with my tiny human brain possibly comprehend, and in the process of doing so defending the irrational disbelief of Zeus and Thor, as well as the heretical pseudoscientific theory that “chance created everything from slime” … but it’s good to know that I’m not the only person with such silly ideas!!
Thanks for reading my random ramblings!
You put me in such a good mood hahah. Love to chat sometime, athiesm is the shit.
Your random ramblings make me quite glad, and the word ‘pseudoscientific’ made me smile. Age is but a number, and the same goes for I.Q., and I wish more people in the world would learn to live by this.
You’re not naive or childish and I’m thoroughly impressed by your views on shit in general.
TAKE THAT, HATERS.
Dear Tim,
Come to my site and read about unblind faith. http://merangue.wordpress.com/
Do you know anyone on earth that can make a blade of grass without seed, without dirt, without air?
http://merangue.wordpress.com/
I just visited your blog. You my friend are the definition of blind faith.
Another way to find out if God is real is to read about him….Read Genesis then find out if there is any evidence of what is in Genesis. Then read about Jesus CHrist, then find out if there is any evidence. Do it scientifically. Don’t deny something you have not even attempted to research go out on a limb and find out for yourself instead of listening to someone who already has found out to his satisfaction and saying it is blind faith. Put on your glasses and you figure it out. In my opinion you have made assumptions without any scientific verification and the funny thing is the evidence is everywhere so you have plenty of data you just need to collect the data and do some work on it.
How do you know. You dont know me
Then again, I’m actually quite impressed by the amount of time you’ve spent with this. I’ll praise you for that.
You think you know but someone has blinded you with the religion of atheism. You are the one with blind faith and speak nonsense. You need to learn before you speak
You dont realize that atheism is faith in nothing
Anyway I hope you do research for yourself about God and Jesus Christ.
You seem very intelligent but you really need to make the effort yourself and use those brains that you were blessed with and help find the real truth about God and His Son.
I’ll promise to reread the Bible if you’ll promise to read the Quran, Hadith, Theogony, Akilathirattu Ammanai, Arul Nool, Kitáb-i-Aqdas, Kitáb-i-Íqán, Odyssey, Dhammapada, Tipitaka, Iliad, Songs of Yongdam, Principia Discordia, Book of Caverns, Śruti, Smriti, Kabir Panth and the likes.
You aren’t a kid, are ya?

am on a journey of adventure, discovery, exploring, checking things out, enjoy your inquiring mind and your take on stuff, and love the idea that it takes many types of all of us to make up this world and that the internet allows us to hear all the voices. keep on blogging!
You are wise for your age, you know that? I really appreciate things you put here, though I find some offensive to people(cultural difference I suppose), but I mean, there was a reason why it was there at the first place. This blog is good for self-introspection, and a good laugh (for open minded people).
Tim, was your pastor Ray Comfort? What he said about days in a year, etc. sounds like what Ray says about bananas.
BUT SERIOUSLY. For the past few days, my (Olorin / Upson Downes / Soc Puppette) comments have have not appeared on the misnamed blog “New Discoveries and Comments about Creationism.” Since the comments did get there OK, and were not marked for moderation, I’ve been wondering whether Michael has (finally!) banned me (us).
If you revisit there, please relay my compliments to Eelco for holding Michael’s feet to the fire. I note that you have taken up the torch there as well.
Mahalo nui (as we say in Hawai’i).
Thx, Tim, for your comment in Michael’s “New Discoveries” blog. General put-downs in that blog are not very convincing, I think. What I tried to do was to point out specific falsehoods, specific misreadings, specific contrary findings. For example, Michael natters on about “designed” ion channels, not realizing that volcanoes produce a class of minerals (zeolites) that have channels for different individual ions—including the same ones as cell channels: Na, K, Ca, etc. Were these “designed” by the volcanoes? Selective channels (and cages) are in fact a well-known feature of many chemical structures. And selective osmosis of ions is a property of membranes that unquestionably form naturally.
If in future you’d like info on one of Michael’s “New Discoveries,” let me know by e-mail. Keep up the good work—you too may get yourself banned! You may wish to erase this comment, since it’s irrelevant to your blog
I think you guys did a very good job, however I don’t think Michael could have cared less… but his other readers, who knows?
Michael receives back-channel support—exactly from whom is uncertain. But some of his sources leak out later. Such as Safarti on the vertebrate eye. Definitely go after the readers. Dom, e.g., tucked in after being caught lying about Kuhn. Momimonika is drawn in, I think, by refutations of Micheal’s mental abcesses. Even Michael may be more careful after being caught lying about “soft tissue” in Archeopteryx fossils.
in the present post, he sneers over ““handling the same bundle of data as before, but placing them in a new system of relations with one another by giving them a different framework.” What the bejeepers does he think science is all about? That’s exactly what Kepler and Galileo did with Tycho Brahe’s extensive data—moved it from Brahe’s cumbersome geocentric framework to a heliocentric theory with simple elliptical orbits. That’s what theories are for–to let us see farther from the same data. Yet another example of cluelessness as to science.
And the Tibetan rant is a load of dingoes kidneys. Normal selection of preexisting genetic variation handles that quite easily. Those better able to tolerate low oxygen reproduce preferentially, until the best hemoglobin variation becomes fixed in the population. Basic Darwinian theory. Awesome? You bet. But the awe of understanding trumps the awe of ignorance.
You may tell him so, if you wish. Never give up.
Someone mentioned how it is great to see someone so young think for themselves and not think what everyone else tells them to. But I think this is only because these two share the same beliefs. He would not be congratulating Tim is he believed in Hinduism while living in a Christian culture. So “thinking” for oneself, I contend, is just being the rebel, as many young people are. “Old people” and their ‘old religion’ aren’t good enough for the young, and as they have always done, they rebel. To rebel against religion is not original, or thinking for oneself, it is following the age-old tradition of not doing what your parents tell you to do. In this specific case, I’d bet that Tim has idolized certain popular atheists of today, like Hitchens and so forth. I would suggest reading more classical atheists, perhaps non-western atheists. On the forefront would be Nietzsche, a man who was intellectually honest and courageous.
CommunionOfTheSanctimonious knows why Tim is an atheist, despite Tim’s different reason given above. It sounds to this old Lutheran that the proximate cause in this case was independent thought, compounded by the know-it-all attitude exhibited by CS.
Many writers have noted that remarks of the kind Tim’s pastor uttered are a major source of atheists. A colleague who grew up in Vietnam under communism is curious about Christianity. But the really stupid things he hears from the fundamentalists put him off. Even worse are children of creationists, when they find out their parents have been lying to them. Exempli gratia: Blogger Abbie Smith (“ERV”) and writer Laurie Lebo (“The Devil in Dover”).
RE “New Discoveries and Comments about Creationism” blog.
Tim, Michael is correct that I attempted several short comments under one screen name, after my longer comment was refused entry. The purpose of the short ones was to test the ban—if I post two short identical comments, I get a “duplicate comment” error message, which tells me that Michael did in fact receive the comment, but refused to enter it. That is, that the problem is not in my own system.
But any excuse will do, I guess.
Tim, would you mind opening the comments to the “LFMAO-busted” post back up? I sooo want to mock Bradley for the sheer gullibility of that last comment, and then mock him for forgetting the millions upon millions of people who starve to death every year, praying for just a bite to eat.
No, I’ve had enough of his bullshit.
Ohh, okay. Believe me I understand, that’s why I banned evangelizing before I got bored of posting about religion on my own blog. But damn, they’re just such pathetic idiots aren’t they, and too easy to make fun of.
Yeah, prayer didn’t work the first few thousand times, but praise God it did that time.
By the way, I note that you don’t have any commenting rules for your blog. For topic that stirs up the crazies, that might be a bad idea. Mine are simple if you’d like to adopt them: 1. No spamming, evangelizing, parroting, sock-puppetry, or bigotry. 2. Stay on topic, or take it elsewhere. 3. Constructive criticism is welcomed. 4. Hostility will only be tolerated so far. 5. And finally, try not to feed the trolls.
Wow Bradley you surprise me. That sounds like something I’d say in order to mock you.
Well, I think one of the biggest fallacies atheists fall victim to is that faith and believing is easy. Something for the simple… It’s actually incredibly hard and takes a lot of work to maintain it. Best of luck to all of you.
Dan, perhaps I’ll talk to you soon.
Just as well you are leaving. I was about to ban you.
lol, ok Tim
Yes, ban that idiot.
I mean of course denying the reality of what you see before your own two eyes everyday is difficult. You have to brain-wash yourself into thinking that either reality is an illusion or faith is a virtue.
Really is, well, real – and blind faith is not a virtue.
At least your math tutor didn’t relate physics and exponential growth and decay to God and creation. That was trippy.
I hear you loud and clear buddy! I’ve been baptized and brought up catholic. I’m now 17 and have studied Christianity, Islam and Judaism in depth. All three religions have the one source, they’re all Semitic…..
So, I’m educated enough to have my own opinions about my religion…
It’s Bull****
But… as humans, the majority of us need to have things explained, need to have reason, need to have something to blame or to cling to in times of need…
they just can’t grasp the concept of “ignorance can be bliss”.
Hi, nice to meet you !
Hi Tim,
Here is my prediction : one day, you will become a pastor – because you are smart enough to figure out, one day, that your brain is not God (or the ultimate determinant of what is, and what is not) – no matter how well it may work.
In the meantime, I like you and your stuff – thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. Keep thinking! Keep exploring! If God is, then he can handle you and me and everyone else trying to figure out life, the universe and everything else.
Louise,
WTF? He’s an atheist, for crying out loud. That means he doesn’t believe in gods. You can’t believe you’re something that you don’t believe exists at all, can you?!
Why is it that xtians can’t wrap their minds around the statement “I don’t believe in gods”??? What is grammatically difficult about that statement?
Just because your pastor is a retard doesn’t mean that God is not real. Oh and that list you have of all that bullshit you should add that having a faith, including atheism is your right, I’m a Christan and against shoving the bible down peoples thoughts, But don’t act like you are “enlightening” us by telling your idea of truth. you now have my email, send me this fossil record that you think you have. And carbon dating has bean proven false, and you should do more research on those “fairy tales” they have found the ruins of Sodom and Gomorrah, they are one of the only places in the world where you can find pure elemental sulfur. AKA brimstone. But in all honesty, your pastor is a fuck, your logic is fucked up, and I know i going to be perceived now as “stupid and unable to except the truth” but this website and all this you’ve done because of your pastor is Just Gay. I pity you
Well, at least you got one thing right, so reading your comment wasn’t a complete waste of my time.
hi Tim
it’s really too much to read here, so I’m gonna just skip it and ask:
Well, there is no rational need to postulate an existance of some supernature force or just a bearded guy on a cloud unless you want to influence others for your own profit. But. There might be an irrational need of it that is rationalized in a form of religions, philosophical things and stuff like that. Yeah, work of human brain is still mysterious in some aspects. So humans are irrational creatures, that’s pretty obvious. And they do irrational stuff like praying. Can it be classiffied only as stupidness, though it’s partly due to their behaviourial features?
That question just bothers me and i don’t really want to justify people with imaginary friends. Just a thought, it came to me after I read some book by Fromm.
Hi Tim.
I’m impressed with your knowlege and understanding(yes, I know I’m repeating everyone else here) and I’m glad that you managed to understand about the uselessness of having any Gods. I go to a Catholic Highschool (in year 8) and have recently found out that Religion is compulsory throughout the entire time at the school. Every year they send out forms asking our religion, and yet they continue to force me to attend the Mass and all that stuff when I write down I’m Athiest.
I’m also in the school’s band.
hey tim, was reading through the title of your posts, it seems that you have issues with Christianity..don’t you think it’s possible that the reason you think as such towards Christians is because you’ve established a fixated view towards them? just like fundies do when it comes to bible translation of muslim extremists when they think non-muslims should be slaughtered?
in this case, an Atheist who hates Christians? haha
I’m as fixated about the moral depravity of Christianity as I am about the moral depravity of Adolf Hitler.
LOL, shit man, 18? You’re legal now. I didn’t realise it’s been this long. I hope you’re not one of the damn students next door who party until ridiculous hours
hence the lack of posts… jk. good to see you!
